Retouching varnishes and intermediate varnishes

Handling

• Ideal for final protection of oil paintings and temporary for those oil paintings which are not yet finished; smoothes out the dull areas that often occur in oil paintings (matt parts less in binder).
• Shake well before use.
• The product is ready to use as final varnish, but can be diluted with e.g. turpentine substitute 50019; for using as retouching varnish please dilute with 20 % turpentine substitute 50019!
• Final varnishes may only be applied with a suitable varnish brush at room temperature to the layer of oil paint after it has dried completely, i.e. after 8 – 12 month at the earliest; for using as a retouching varnishes the picture´s surface has to get dried (i.e. after 4 weeks at the earliest).
• Please clean tools as soon as possible with e.g. turpentine substitute 50019 or brush cleaner 50051 / 50052.
• The dried varnish layer remains soluble in turpentine substitute 50019 over a long period.
• If used as a retouching varnish it is possible to overpaint the dried varnish layer with oil colours or add a final varnish based on mineral spirit.
• Products based on mineral spirit cannot be mixed with those based on alcohol like alcoholic retouching varnish 50020.
• The varnish coats normally used in practice give no special UV protection to the paints used. For this reason, we recommend that you use high-quality and lightfast oil paints from the outset as far as possible.
• Close immediately after use.
• Store in a cool and dry place.
• Individual pre-tests are required.
