Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Shake the medium well before use.
Step 2: Now you have different mixing options with oil and/ or resin:
Step 3: Now you can grind your colour out of the binder and the pigment. The large Schmincke pigment assortment contain 100 % pure pigment which has not been extended or blended in 48 classical colours in 100 ml jars and in addition 24 specific EXTRA colours like genuine cadmium and cobalt pigments in 50 ml jars. All pigments are finely sifted and of highest possible lightfastness.
The mixing ratio of binder to pigment very much depends on the type of dyestuff. Our recommendation: Start off with the same amount of binder and pigment, then add binder or pigment until the required consistency. The dried streaks of paint should have a smooth surface and do not come off when rubbed with the dry heel of the hand. The self-mixed colours can be diluted with tree time the amount of water if necessary.
Important: The self-mixed tempera binders and the self-grinded tempera colours are intended to be used as soon as possible and should only be stored in screw-top jars for a few days at a cool place.
Please clean working tools as soon as possible with water or water and soap and close the bottle immediately after use. Store in a cool and dry place. Contains: lactic casein, borax.
Good to know: The pure casein binding medium can get freeze – optimally in small portions – to rise its storage life. Individual pre-tests are required.
Alternative: Maybe you have been getting interested in self-grinding your artists’ colours, but you better like acrylic or gouache (or oil or linoprint), we will encourage you to try our appropriate ready-to-use binders and some pigments from our range. A detailed instruction you will find here:
