Lightfast 23 - June/July 2020

Dear friends of finest artists’ colours!

Summer, sunshine and hopefully lots of inspiration - regardless of whether you spend this summer at home, perhaps due to the situation, or whether you can make a little escape, we wish you a good and colourful time. Summertime is also always watercolour time and we have compiled watercolour inspirations and interesting facts about the trend theme "Granulating Colours" for you. Imke Hahn's blog also picks up on the use of some of our Aqua mediums and has a maritime motif on the subject.

No matter what you do in summer - we wish you all the best, take care and stay healthy!

NEW: HORADAM® watercolour box with spring and summer colours

The painter and architect Julia Faßhauer (@Farbcafé) composed a HORADAM® watercolour box with 12 particularly colourful, fresh and sunny watercolours. This "Spring Edition" is compiled to capture the spring and summer colours in painting, but also in the trend techniques of Lettering and New Watercolour.

The special edition box 74807 is available in art supply shops - while stocks last. The metal box contains 12 half pans in the HORADAM® watercolour shades:

  • 215 lemon yellow,
  • 213 chrome yellow dark,
  • 214 chrome orange,
  • 342 vermilion light,
  • 354 madder deep,
  • 476 Schmincke violet,
  • 657 transparent ochre,
  • 648 transparent brown,
  • 526 permanent green,
  • 513 emerald green,
  • 474 helioturquoise,
  • 494 ultramarine finest

In addition, the box with an empty row offers further space for 12 half or 6 whole pans. Of course, the HORADAM® watercolours are also available individually in pans and tubes in art supply shops.

Do you know... what granulating watercolours are?

Granulating watercolours are gaining more and more importance in watercolour painting. The surface effect of these special shades is slightly different from that of normal-flowing watercolours. You might think that the colours look pale, but this is exactly the effect desired for certain techniques.

BLOG: Light Bulb Watercolour Painting

with Imke Hahn

The artist Imke Hahn has created an inventive watercolour painting using HORADAM® watercolours and some Schmincke AQUA mediums. In this instruction, she shows us step by step how much life and structure can exist in and around a painted light bulb. Along the way you will also learn about some very important watercolour mediums.
