As a preview to a very exciting book, we present the soon to be published chronicle of the Schmincke family company - a comprehensive look at 140 years of eventful German family and company history.

And as creative inspiration, Sabine Ziegler takes us to Venice and illustrates step by step the typical city atmosphere of Venice with colours that seem to be made for it, the super-granulating HORADAM® AQUARELL colours, which perfectly reproduce the morbid flair.

Chronicle of a family business from the founding years to the present day

The company H. Schmincke & Co. was founded in Düsseldorf in 1881 and developed over 140 years into one of the world's leading manufacturers of artists' paints and an internationally recognized brand which great artists, once and today, used to create their art works. Today, the Schmincke company is still family-owned and can look back on a long and eventful company history, but also on an exciting family history.

The authors of this richly and very attractively illustrated book, full of historical illustrations from the company's, family's and contemporary history, trace a comprehensive arc: From the modest beginnings at the end of the 19th century, through the "Golden Twenties", the Nazi period "between persecution and cooperation," the difficult new start after 1945 and the worldwide expansion in the years after the war, the book leads us all the way to the crises in the 1990s caused by structural change and also by family circumstances. The company's history is excitingly traced up to the present day and also provides an outlook on the upcoming challenges of a family business without its own generation of successors.

The hardcover book in English language will be published by the renowned Prestel Verlag on September 22, 2021. The authors Jörg Lesczenski and Andrea H. Schneider-Braunberger, two company historians, vividly revive a highly interesting piece of German company history. The book is now available for pre-order via the book trade.

CREATIVE BLOG: Venice - Watercolour painting with the supergranulating HORADAM® watercolours
