Lightfast 33 - September/October 2021
Dear friends of finest artists’ colours, we hope you were able to use the summer for creative downtime and got plenty of inspiration, which now leads to a real creative urge! We have used the summer to create many great products for the future. As we all know, Schmincke quality always needs a little lead time.
As not to keep you waiting too long, today we are introducing 4 new, wonderful blue shades of HORADAM® AQUARELL - a special limited edition that will keep you artistically occupied with the theme of water/landscape/sky/mountain for a long time to come.
We also introduce you to the young artist Melina Wuggonig - a creative multi-talent who today shows us step by step how she works out a fox in airbrush technique.
We wish you sunny and healthy late summer days and a creative transition into a beautiful autumn.

SPECIAL: HORADAM® AQUARELL special edition “Blue colours”
Suitable for the cold season, there are some new HORADAM® AQUARELL special colours, which are limited and only available for a short time. We are sure that you will also be thrilled by our new blue beauties:
"Ocean grey" (14990) and Ice blue (14904) in 15 ml tubes.
"Ocean Grey" (14990) is a blue-green-grey, granulating watercolour with highest lightfastness and semi-opaque character, formulated from the pigments Pb29, PG50 and PBk 6, which give the colour character and provide the special granulating effect. This HORADAM® AQUARELL special colour, which is particularly suitable for depicting rough seascapes, was developed in collaboration with the Spanish watercolour artist and Schmincke brand ambassador Cesc Farré.
"Ice Blue" (14904) is a very light, very cold, highly lightfast and opaque watercolour formulated from the pigments PW6 and PB 15:1. It is suitable for depicting cold skies, snow, ice, snowflakes and can also be used to set final highlights due to its opaque character.
"Lapis lazuli" (14804) and "YlnMn blue" (14806) in 5 ml tubes
The two limited special colours "Lapislazuli" and "YInMn blue" are two blue watercolours that could not be more special and different in their origin. The highly lightfast colours are based on particularly precious pigments and have the following properties:
Lapis lazuli (14804) The pigment is extracted from the semi-precious stone "lapis lazuli". Lapis lazuli is a historical shade that has been used in painting since the 11th century. The resources in the countries of origin Chile and Afghanistan are so limited that this will probably be the last production of this watercolour at Schmincke. Lapis lazuli is a semi-transparent, strongly granulating watercolour, a natural dark blue, colouristically similar to ultramarine.
YlnMn blue (14806) The colour YlnMn blue (14806) is based on the rare and expensive elements ytterium (Y), indium (In) and manganese (Mn). The modern shade was only discovered in 2009 and the production of the pigment is extremely complex. The highly brilliant watercolour is opaque and slightly more reddish in colour than ultramarine.
All four HORADAM® AQUARELL special colours are available now, while stocks last.
