Do you know…?

How to activate already dried linoprint colours

Lightfast 7 - June/July 2018

Dear friends of finest artists' colours!

Summer, sun, holiday time and hopefully many opportunities for creative design. We would like to inspire you with a beautiful blog about calligraphy and lettering, in which the type designer Agnete Sabbagh shows our Calligraphy Gouache from a particularly beautiful side.

If you print with linoprint colours, we have a professional tip for you that will not only help you in warm summers. And to the oil painters among you we present our special colour "Flake White hue", which is also available at a special price.

We wish you a really nice summer!

BLOG: Calligraphy on dark grounds with Calligraphy Gouache

This trick works with all linoleum inks from Schmincke (aqua Linol and College® Linol). As a special cleaning agent for tools and plates we recommend Schmincke LINO-CLEAN (50903), a fast acting and biodegradable cleaner for linoprint colours.

- 1 -
Spray some water on the linoprint colour on the plate, wait approx. ¼ h

- 2 -
Mix linoprint colour and water wll with a painting knife

- 3 -
Use the roller to roll out the paint as usual on the plate and process

If - thanks to the warm weather - the linoprint colour on the glass plate has dried or if you would like to reuse any remaining dry linoprint colour residues, we have the following tip for you:

Flake white hue has a slightly lower opacity and brightening power than titanium white. When mixed with other oil paints, the adjustment - like the original - accelerates drying and stabilizes the film.

Oil colours mixed with Flake white hue are of a buttery, smooth consistency. Flake white hue is available in tubes of 35 ml and 120 ml for a special price (as of 1.7.2018). Please ask your retailer for more details.

Chremnitz white - in painting also known as lead white or silver white - is a lead-containing and therefore toxic paint which has often been used in painting for decades for portraits and may only be used today under very special conditions.

In order not to renounce the special properties of a "Chremnitz white", Schmincke has created a modern replacement, the Flake white hue (11108). This excellent lead-free and non-toxic alternative can be recognized by the additional word "-hue", which indicates that it is a replacement. To emphasize the universal applicability of Flake white hue in oil painting, this colour in the Schmincke range is neither assigned to Norma Professional nor to any other oil colour by name. Flake white hue has been developed for all types of oil paints, i.e. MUSSINI, Norma Professional, AKADEMIE Öl and College Oil.

NEW: Flake White hue

Promotion: special price (35 ml and 120 ml)
