Artist Talk - Interview with the artist Michela Bogoni

1881 - 2021: Schmincke celebrates its 140th anniversary in 2021. And its original product - MUSSINI® finest artists' resin oil colours - can also look back on this long success story, too. Since its development in 1881 by the company founders Josef Horadam and Hermann Schmincke, little has changed in the recipe. We got in touch with some oil painters and asked them about the special properties of our traditional paint.

What is your name and where are you from?
My name is Michela Bogoni, I am a painter in Verona and I give oil portrait courses all over Italy where we use MUSSINI^® and where I recommend MUSSINI^®.

How long have you been working with MUSSINI^®? Do you remember your first tube of MUSSINI^®?
I have been working with MUSSINI^® for 25 years, my first MUSSINI^® was a blue one that I bought by chance in a paintshop in Vicenza.

Do you have a favourite theme? What inspires you?
I am a sketch artist. I love painting faces. I've been doing commissioned portraits for years.

Why are the MUSSINI^® colours special?
The MUSSINI^® ones are brilliant and intense/concentrated... with little paint you get a great result. I wouldn't live without them.

What are your favourite colours ?
I have a list of my favourite colours that I use for the faces. My favourite colours?... all of them! I mention some like 206,662, 347, 485, 646.

AERO COLOR Professional is an ultra-fluid, highly lightfast acrylic paint for acrylic painting, airbrushing and mixed media techniques. The range includes 36 highly brilliant colours, 12 TOTAL COVER colours, 9 Candy Colors and 12 special effect colors.

HORADAM Aquarell are premium watercolours with 139 brilliant colours in pans and tubes, as well as 50 supergranulating colours for spectacular surface effects. Their highest lightfastness and pigment quality make them top-tier watercolours.

AKADEMIE Aquarell offers 24 thoughtfully chosen fine watercolours with mostly highest lightfastness. Available in pans and various painting sets, they ensure brilliant mixing nd painting results.

AQUAR DROP are liquid, pigment-based, highly lightfast watercolours, ready to use and water-dilutable. The 24 colors in 30ml plastic pipette bottles are perfect for watercolour paintings, urban sketching, calligraphyand hand lettering.

MUSSINI is a premium artists’ resin oil paint offering 108 highly brilliant colours, including 60 single-pigment and 40 transparent colors. Its balanced drying time and subtle resin aroma make it truly unique worldwide.

NORMA Professional is a top-quality oil paint featuring 84 highly lightfast colours, formulated with renewable oils. Easy to work with due to its balanced drying and consistency, it ensures maximum pigment concentration for exceptional coverage.

AKADEMIE Oil color is a fine oil paint with 48 brilliant, highly lightfast colours. Its smooth, pasty consistency allows versatile techniques and a quick drying. The pure colours are ideal for use both on their own and in mixtures.

College Oil is a student-grade oil paint with 24 colours, including gold and silver, containing proven artist pigments and natural vegetable oils. The highly lightfast colours meet all requirements of a student oil paint.

Kremser White is a lead-free alternative to the historical “Kremser White”. This lead-free, warm, semi-opaque white accelerates drying and enhances the flow properties of other oil colours when mixed.

The vegan liquid charcoals and earths in 6 colours are ideal for a clean, dust-free approach to painting, drawing and underpainting. The gouache-like larger quantities of colour also make it possible to paint large areas.

Indian Ink 1912 is a premium waterproof ink for drawing, painting and writing, made from natural ingredients with shellac as a binder. This deep black and archival ink is historically known as "Chinese ink."

Our pastel range includes 400 handmade pastel sticks of the finest, velvety quality. With minimal binder content these colours allow an exceptional bold application, getting you close to the pure essence of colour.

HORADAM Gouache offers 48 premium gouache colours with natural opacity, without the addition of extra white. These colours provide excellent handling and offer versatile creative possibilities, even when combined with HORADAM watercolors.

AKADEMIE Gouache offers 30 fine artists’ gouache colours. The selection of opaque, matte and intensely vibrant shades is thoughtfully aligned with various colour mixing systems for educational purposes. All colours have a 4 and 5-star lightfastness.

DESIGNERS Gouache offers 48 finest gouache colours designed according to the HKS colour system. These colours are highly opaque, intensely pigmented and have a velvety matte finish, allowing for smooth, streak-free application.

The finest artists’ Calligraphy Gouache is specially designed for calligraphy. The 12 vibrant, mostly opaque colours are perfectly suited for various calligraphy techniques.
