From paper to canvas - AQUA Mediums enable a new painting experience

Purists among watercolour painters only need one painting medium: water. However, our AQUA series watercolour Mediums enable new creative techniques and effects with both HORADAM® and AKADEMIE® watercolour paints - and not just on the classic painting surface of paper! TIP: With the primers AQUA Primer, fine (50702) and AQUA Primer, coarse (50703) it is also possible to create watercolour works on other grease-free surfaces, such as canvas, cardboard or wood. If you would like to partially mask smooth, non-absorbent paper before watercolouring,
you can choose from a range of rubbing crepe (50300, 50303) and masking pencils (50730, 50731).
Two fillers - fine and coarse - also allow you to create three-dimensional textured effects with watercolours on various surfaces. They can be easily applied with a palette knife or palette knife to paper (> 350 g/m²), cardboard or wood, for example, and can be painted over with watercolours after drying - thicker layers are best applied the next day - without the need for a further layer of primer.

Important for working with watercolours and the AQUA series: The painting surfaces should be grease-free. For
substrates that are difficult to wet with water, we recommend pre-treatment with ox gall (50031) or ONETZ (14031). A better flow on such surfaces can also be achieved by adding a small amount of these two wetting agents to the watercolours (please use a palette to mix the medium and paint!). By the way: These two media can also be used to ‘degrease’ the lacquered mixing palettes of the metal paint boxes. All AQUA mediums can be mixed with water without any problems. However, some of them dry up relatively quickly like acrylic paints. It is therefore advisable to clean all tools used immediately after the painting process with soap and water.

With the AQUA Gloss (50740) and AQUA Shine (50720) Mediums, the effect achieved is highly dependent on the individual amount added. The following applies: The more colouring agent and the less water, the greater the effect.
ATTENTION: Many of the AQUA mediums are mixed with watercolours before application. Always use a
Always use a palette or a plate for mixing - under no circumstances should the mediums be poured directly into the pans! The following applies to the storage of all AQUA mediums: Store in a cool place. Protect from frost.
TIP: Of course, all AQUA mediums can also be combined with HORADAM® Gouache or AKADEMIE® Gouache, provided they are used in a watercolour-like manner after dilution with plenty of water.
By the way: If you want to grind your own watercolours with pigments, you will find detailed information on gum arabic (50302) and the watercolour binder ‘Ready-to-use’ (50820). There are also many suitable products for final treatment, such as the watercolour fixative (50403) or watercolour varnish (50112).
